ADMIT_TYPE

Description

A code indicating priority of the admission.

1 = Emergency Definition: The patient requires immediate medical intervention as a result of severe, life threatening or potentially disabling conditions. Generally, the patient is admitted through the emergency room.

2 = Urgent. Definition: The patient requires immediate attention for the care and treatment of a physical or mental disorder. Generally, the patient is admitted to the first available and suitable accommodation.

3 = Elective. Definition: The patient’s condition permits adequate time to schedule the availability of a suitable accommodation. An elective admission can be delayed without substantial risk to the health of the individual.

4 = Newborn. Definition: Use of this code necessitates the use of special Source of Admission codes; see Source of Admission. Generally, the child is born within the facility.

5 = Trauma. Definition: Visit to trauma center/hospital as licensed or by designated by state or local government authority authorized to do so, or as verified by the American College of Surgeons and involving trauma activitation.

9 = Information Not Available. Definition: Information was not collected or was not available.

NOTE: Other values exist but no definition is available.
